If you are not from the EU or a visa-free country, you need a Schengen business visa to visit MEDICA. Apply at the German embassy or consulate for your place of residence. Apply early: appointments in many countries are booked weeks or months ahead.
This article is general guidance, not legal advice. Always check the current rules with the German mission in your country.
Who needs a visa?
Citizens of many countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East need a visa for Germany. This includes Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Egypt and Nigeria. Citizens of the EU, the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia, among others, do not need a visa for a short business trip.
Documents usually requested
- A valid passport
- A completed visa application form and photos
- Proof of your MEDICA ticket or registration
- A letter from your employer explaining the trip
- An invitation from the companies you plan to meet, if you have one
- Hotel booking and return flight reservation
- Travel health insurance covering at least €30,000
- Bank statements showing you can pay for the trip
Invitation letters
Messe Düsseldorf has stated that, since 2013, German missions do not require an invitation letter from the fair organiser for trade fair visas. A letter from an exhibitor you will meet can still strengthen your application.
If you are a buyer planning to meet Tata Surgical, we can write a letter confirming your appointment at our stand. Contact us with your full name, passport number and company details.
When to apply
Apply at least eight weeks before 16 November 2026, or earlier if appointments in your city are scarce. You can usually apply up to six months before travel.
Tata Surgical’s team
Our own team travels from Pakistan for MEDICA, so we go through the same process. Visit us at Hall 10, Stand C32.
