After a long day at MEDICA, Düsseldorf has plenty to offer, from traditional brewery pubs to some of the best Japanese food in Europe. Most places are a short ride from the fair on the U78 or U79.
The Altstadt (old town)
The old town is known as “the longest bar in the world” because of its many pubs and bars in a small area. Try Altbier, Düsseldorf’s local dark beer, in one of the traditional brewery houses. Non-alcoholic drinks and local food are always available.
Rhine promenade
Walk along the river from the old town. In the evening the city lights reflect on the water.
Königsallee
The “Kö” is Düsseldorf’s famous shopping street, with a canal down the middle and luxury shops on both sides.
Japanese quarter
Düsseldorf has one of the largest Japanese communities in Europe. The area around Immermannstraße has excellent ramen, sushi and Japanese shops.
Rheinturm and MedienHafen
The Rheinturm TV tower has views over the city. Nearby, the MedienHafen harbour area has modern architecture and restaurants.
Christmas markets
Düsseldorf’s Christmas markets usually open in the second half of November. If they are open during the fair, they are a great place for an evening walk, hot drinks and local food. Check the opening date before you travel.
Halal and vegetarian food
You will find many halal restaurants around the main station and in the city centre, as well as plenty of vegetarian options.
Business dinners
Book restaurants early for MEDICA week, especially for groups.
