MEDICA is one of the best places to find a manufacturer that will make instruments under your brand. You can compare several factories in a day, see their work and discuss your specification face to face.
OEM vs private label
- Private label: The manufacturer’s existing product, sold with your brand name, item codes and packaging. Quick to start, with lower minimum orders.
- OEM (original equipment manufacturing): A product made to your design or drawing. Takes longer, but the product is unique to you.
What to prepare
- Your brand guidelines and logo files
- A product list with sizes, patterns and finishes
- Drawings or samples for custom items
- Labelling and packaging requirements for your markets
- Your expected yearly volumes
What to ask an OEM partner
- Can you laser mark my brand and item codes on each instrument?
- Can you make custom packaging, inserts and labels?
- Who owns the design and tooling for custom items?
- Will you sign a confidentiality agreement?
- Can you provide technical files to support my CE or FDA registration?
- Can you pack sterile, in my packaging, from a clean room?
Red flags
- No clear answer on who makes the product
- Unwilling to show certificates
- Samples that differ from the stand display
- Prices far below everyone else’s
