Buyers often use OEM, private label and white label as if they were the same. They overlap, but the differences matter when you plan a range or negotiate with a maker.
| Term | What it means | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| White label | A standard product with neutral or no branding, sold by many resellers | Quick, low-cost entry |
| Private label | The maker’s product, branded and packed for one seller | Building your own brand |
| OEM | A product made to the buyer’s own design, drawing or specification | Unique products, special patterns |
White label
The fastest option. The instrument is unbranded or neutral, and you add your own label. Many resellers sell the same item, so competition is on price.
Private label
The instrument carries your brand through laser marking and your packaging. The design is usually the maker’s standard pattern.
OEM
You own the design. The maker produces it to your drawing, sample or specification. This suits special patterns, custom sets and products that set you apart.
Which is right for you?
- Starting out: white label or private label on best-selling items
- Growing a brand: private label across your core range
- Building unique products: OEM for your signature items
