Laser marking is the most durable way to put your brand on an instrument. It survives hundreds of sterilisation cycles and makes your products easy to identify in any hospital tray. Laser marking therefore adds both brand value and traceability.
What can be marked
- Brand name or logo
- Item or catalogue code
- CE mark, where it applies to your product
- Material, for example “stainless”
- Data Matrix code for tracking or UDI
Where it goes
Usually on the shank or near the finger ring, where it is visible but does not affect the grip or function.
What to send your manufacturer
- Logo as a vector file
- Exact text and codes per item
- Preferred position, or ask for a suggestion
Costs
Laser marking adds a small cost per piece and a one-off set-up per design. Larger orders lower the cost per item.
Check the quality
- Sharp, readable marking
- No damage to the surface finish
- Marking that does not fade after cleaning tests
Getting laser marking right
Laser marking works best when you plan it with your maker. First, send your logo as a clear vector file. Next, agree the size and position for each instrument type. In addition, decide whether to add item codes or Data Matrix codes. As a result, every instrument looks consistent.
Also, check a sample after several sterilising cycles. The mark should stay sharp and readable. However, deep or rough marks can trap dirt, so the finish matters. The laser engraving overview explains the process. To add laser marking to your range, see our OEM service.
