Buying iris scissors that cut well
These scissors are small, so any fault is easy to feel. For example, if the points do not meet, they will not cut fine sutures cleanly. Therefore, always check the tips under good light before you accept a batch. In addition, the blades should close smoothly without gaps.
First, decide between straight and curved blades. Straight pairs suit cutting sutures and trimming, while curved ones help with fine dissection. Next, choose sharp/sharp or sharp/blunt tips, depending on the task. Also, consider supercut or tungsten carbide versions for frequent use. As a result, they stay sharp for longer.
Many plastic surgery, ophthalmic and minor surgery sets include at least one pair. However, these fine scissors should not be used on heavy tissue, because this dulls and bends the points. So, keep Mayo scissors for heavier work.
Finally, protect the tips with caps during storage. The iris scissors article gives more background. To order in bulk, request a quote.
